The Sword in the Stone

General / 10 January 2022

This was an admittedly rushed piece created for CG Boost's December mythology themed challenge. I had initially planned on an arm holding the sword extending from the water...but my organic modeling skills were lacking far to much to make it happen. I'm not even sharing those fails 😆 . Anyway, here's the final render and some progress shots. It will not be in my portfolio! 😅

The story surrounding Excalibur actually has two events in which Arthur is given the sword. The first is the sword in the stone story where it is pulled from an anvil. I actually modeled that anvil for this scene and then scrapped it. The rock is a photo scan of mine as well. I went through a number of different lighting and setting ideas before arriving at the one that would take the least time.

Merry Christmas!

General / 26 December 2021

Sure, I'm a day late but better late than never! I uploaded a few version of a Christmas scene over the past few days around the web that I wanted to share.

First, check out this little animation with sound. Set it on loop and relax :)

This is the small version of the final full image.

Just for fun, I used the Woolly shader by DoubleGum on Blendermarket.

And of course the obligatory clay and wire shots.

Last but not least, there is a print version available in my Artstation store! That's all for now. Until next time, happy blending!

When you let a blender artist do ceramics...

General / 29 November 2021

As 3D artist who has been using Blender for the past five years and having learned the basics from none other than the Blender Guru himself, I couldn't resist picking this doughnut as my ornament when my family went out to paint ceramics for an afternoon. 😀

Swordfish II Animation

General / 16 November 2021

The full animation experience is here! This is by far the most complex animation I have put together so far. Sound mixing too! Leave your comments. What do you think? Good stuff? There are a few things I'll improve or change if I revisit it again.

Cave Dwelling

General / 06 October 2021

Here is a little project I undertook just for fun. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to really make it great. It is based directly on a piece by Labeeb called Cave House that I found while browsing through Artstation. I wanted to make my own version of it since I thought it was such a cool concept. Here is my humble attempt.

Some assets are from Megascans. The vast majority of it was modeled, textured, lit, and rendered in Blender 2.93 with Cycles as the render engine.

He is risen. Happy Easter

General / 04 April 2021

Have a safe and happy Easter! Remember what is celebrated today. The risen savior!

I spent two and a half to three hours creating the scene, and another 2 toying with lighting. Not too bad for a last minute idea 😆

Timelapse: Tree Creation Process

General / 01 April 2021

In my last post I wrote about the process I am developing in order to make tree for populating fantasy scenes. The current exercise if for the purpose of the Isengard scene. This timelapse shows the entire process from start to finish. I do slow down to show the modifier stack and nodes.
